The reviewers evaluate applications based upon BSA leadership responsibilities, merit badges earned, scouting activities, leadership in community activities, leadership in religious activities, leadership in scholastic, school and extracurricular activities, a four generation ancestor chart, and a 500 word essay on a topic of the American revolutionary period.
The application year is the calendar year, 01 Jan. to 31 Dec.
Applications need to be submitted to local chapters by December 1, 2011. The selection will take place before January 31, 2012.
The state award winner for this contest receives $350, a winning recognition certificate and a medallion. The 1st place award is presented at the State Convention banquet on February 25, 2012. The 1st place national award is $8000; 2nd place $4000; 3rd place $2000. Chairman also sends letters of congratulations to new Eagle Scouts and invites them to participate. Chapters can acknowledge Eagle Scouts with certificate of recognition. Click above links for additional details.

The State deadline for each chapter to submit its essay is January 13, 2012. The state award winner for this contest receives $300, a winning recognition certificate and medal; 2nd place receives $200 and a certificate; 3rd place receives $150 and a certificate. First place winner and parents attend the State Convention banquet on February 25, 2012. The 1st place national award is $2000, a winning recognition certificate and medal; airfare and one night hotel stay for the winner and a chaperone at the SAR Annual Congress. National 2nd place is $1000; 3rd place $500. The Home Education Association in each chapter's area should also be invited to participate.

SAR ROTC/JROTC medal recipients are selected by the Commanding Officer of the ROTC or JROTC unit. Local chapters are responsible for University/College and High School units in their areas. University/College cadets receive the Silver ROTC Medal. JROTC cadets receive the Bronze JROTC Medal.

S. flag for patriotic purposes regularly and properly. The NSSAR encourages the State Society and each of its chapters to present annually at least one Flag Certificate to a person or organization who qualifies. Chapters are to notify the State Flag Chairman by 31 January each year of their awards and the State Flag Chairman is to notify the National Flag Chairman by 15 April each year.

Public Services and Heroism

It is intended for acts by civilians not in uniform. The Law Enforcement Commendation Medal may be presented to an individual who has served with distinction and devotion and recognizes exceptional service or accomplishment in the field of law enforcement. The Fire Safety Commendation Medal may be presented to an individual for accomplishments and/or outstanding contributions in an area of fire safety and service to recognize the protection of human life and property by preventing injuries or casualties due to fire or chemicals. The Emergency Services Commendation Medal may be presented to a paramedic, certified emergency medical technician and others in the emergency medical field who has performed an act or service beyond that normally expected. This includes dissemination of NSSAR programs and resolutions relating to the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The Americanism Committee also is responsible for monitoring the ALSSAR’s competitive position for the President General’s State Society and Chapter Activities Competition Award and the President General’s Cup Award, which are presented at the Annual Congress.

http://www.sar.org/Committees/Color_Guard Guidelines to Qualify for State Color Guard Medal The ALSSAR Color Guard is made up of those Compatriots who come to SAR meetings and events properly uniformed as either Continental Soldiers or Militiamen, or attired as Revolution-era clergymen. These men seek to visibly promote the stated objectives of th e SAR which are declared to be Historical, Patriotic and Educational. Therefore, it is important that a Revolutionary War uniformed Color Guard fielded by the ALSSAR to be historically correct so as to not compromise these objectives. Every time an ALSSAR Color Guard makes a public appearance, the members are fulfilling all three objectives. In fact, the Color Guard is one of the most effective public relations tools available to the ALSSAR. Click above link for additional details.

The AHEF is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the understanding and teaching of our nation's factual and philosophical heritage to promote freedom, unity, progress, and responsibility among our students and citizens. The curriculum focuses on age appropriate and modifiable lesson plans grouped into three different levels: elementary, middle and high school.
